Nursery Manager Job Description

Contract: Full time, permanent, all year round
Location: Copthorne Prep School, West Sussex

Copthorne Prep School is an outstanding and thriving independent school situated in beautiful surroundings in West Sussex. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Manager to lead our Nursery, which forms an integral part of our early years provision for children aged 2 and above.

Open 48 weeks of the year, our Nursery provides a warm, stimulating, and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, play, and learn. We are proud of our creative and dynamic approach to early childhood education, enriched with exciting extra-curricular opportunities and underpinned by strong pastoral care.

The Nursery Manager will play a key role in shaping the future of the Nursery, leading a committed team and delivering a motivating curriculum that inspires young minds. The successful candidate will hold at least a Level 3 qualification in Early Years (NVQ or equivalent) and have a passion for early childhood education, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to promoting the nursery within the wider school community.

This is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week, all year round, with six weeks’ holiday allocated, two of which may be taken flexibly. You will also be expected to attend termly INSET sessions and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the school as it grows.

The role includes oversight of the nursery team, while also playing a pivotal role in enriching and expanding the nursery offering. A key aspect of this exciting opportunity is finding someone who is aligned with the school’s ethos and committed to embedding it throughout both the Nursery environments. You will work closely with the Heads of School to shape a rich and engaging early years experience and support a smooth transition for children into their Reception class.
