Ensuring that our pupils have the skills and knowledge to thrive in a fast-changing world, alongside a first class academic education, is one of our core priorities.
This year is an exciting one with our digital and innovation provision accelerated with a new curriculum and a new Innovation Centre opening in autumn 2024. Alongside pupils’ main curriculum provision, they will benefit from a digital and innovation curriculum called EDGE which starts in Reception and continues through to Year 6, (and from Year 7 to Sixth Form for those continuing to Caterham School).
EDGE promotes problem solving and critical thinking whilst building the digital skills of our children for their prep education. It also supports their future education at senior school, university and beyond. The focus of EDGE isn’t simply on the latest tech but on the principles and processes behind technology – for example, coding as being precise steps that need to be taken to solve a problem or carry out a task. Pupils learn when to use technology, and when not to so that they become discerning users and creators rather than simply mindless consumers of technology.
The EDGE curriculum was developed by the Caterham School family and has won awards from the Times Educational Supplement and received recognition by EDTECH 50, which assesses the top educational provision in digital and tech across the UK. Working as part of the Caterham Family of Schools (HMC and IAPS digital and innovation advisors) enables us to implement the latest research backed innovations and technology to ensure Copthorne Prep pupils receive the very best education and skills.
