The temperatures might have plummeted, but the enthusiasm and drive in games and matches has been very much on the up as rugby heads towards its very own ‘mid-season break’. The year 4s fresh off the back of “the best rugby session this year” (the exact words of Mr Lewis), travelled to Hawthorns to test themselves against Hawthorns and Reigate St Mary’s. We just about beat the weather and played some good close games with both. Year 3 finished the competitive term off with some fun conditioned games and intra-school tag matches.
Before Jack Frost had paid a visit overnight on Wednesday, the U10 and U13 boys had a block fixture against Hawthorns. This was always going to be a tough fixture at the beginning of the season. U10 played in a triangular with the hosts and Somerhill. Performances got better throughout the afternoon, but both opponents had a little too much for us. The U12/13 touch squad were more dominant against a Hawthorns side than the 20-15 score would suggest.
The U11s travelled to Hurst for their annual festival, again having a number of matches against varied opposition to develop their game early season, who they might not normally play on the circuit. The boys took this opportunity and made good progress through the afternoon.
The senior girls enjoyed their netball against Hurst on Wednesday. Thursday was the last mini hockey festival for years 3 & 4 girls and the progress they have all made since September has been amazing.
